(July 12, 2012) Bet Tzedek feted its volunteers of all stripes at the annual “Evening of Recognition,” held this year at Sinai Temple. Nearly 160 pro bono attorneys, community members, students, board members, staff, along with friends and family came together to celebrate the incredible service of Bet Tzedek’s volunteers in general and the evening’s honorees in particular. California Supreme Court Justice Goodwin Liu delivered a keynote address on the themes of social and systemic change, and the power of individuals to enact such transformation.
Honorees included:
Barbara Fieldman, Adriana Rayo, and Michael Sigall, honored for their dedicated work at Bet Tzedek’s Self-Help Conservatorship Clinic;
Jerry Forman, recognized for his long-time service in client intake;
Ruth Kahn , attorney with the law firm of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, honored for her outstanding pro bono work on behalf of dozens of Holocaust survivors, and;
The law firm Paul Hastings LLP – with attorney Shelly Freedenthal accepting – was honored for its invaluable contributions to two of Bet Tzedek’s signature programs – the Holocaust Survivors Justice Network (HSJN) and the Family Matters project.
