Transgender Advocacy Organizations Step Up to Ensure Protection of Legal Rights in the Face of Rising Uncertainty for Transgender Angelenos

Since the election, there is an increased sense of urgency among many in the transgender community about securing identity documents that reflect their identities, and a need for trained volunteers to help complete the paperwork

In response, Bet Tzedek Legal Services in partnership with the LGBT Bar Association of Los Angeles and the Los Angeles LGBT Center is holding a legal name and gender marker change MLCE training and clinic this Sunday to teach volunteer attorneys how to complete the paperwork necessary to obtain a court order changing one’s name and gender in California including paperwork necessary to file a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court; fee waivers; the process for changing federal identity documents like passports and immigration paperwork; and special considerations for undocumented immigrants, people with criminal records, and youth under 18.
